Israel struck a petrochemical plant and other military targets in Iran on Monday, escalating regional tensions. The attack marked the first strike on an Iranian energy facility since the April ceasefire. The developments affect regional stability, global energy markets, and ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.
Israeli officials said the military targeted facilities within the Mahshahr petrochemical complex in southwestern Iran. Iranian authorities confirmed parts of the plant were damaged and ordered employees to evacuate. However, officials reported no casualties and said damage assessments were underway. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed Israel used air-launched ballistic missiles during the operation.

Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthi movement claimed responsibility for a missile attack on Israel and threatened Red Sea shipping. The group said Israel-linked vessels would remain legitimate military targets. Israeli air defence systems intercepted incoming missiles, according to military officials. The renewed threats have increased concerns about maritime security and international trade routes.
The strikes came hours after US President Donald Trump publicly urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avoid further escalation. Trump insisted ongoing hostilities would not derail negotiations with Tehran. He also stated that decisions regarding the conflict ultimately rested with Washington. Despite diplomatic efforts, both sides exchanged fresh attacks, underscoring the fragility of the ceasefire.

However, disputes over sanctions, regional security, and nuclear issues remain unresolved. Analysts warn that continued military exchanges could further complicate peace efforts and threaten energy supplies.
