
Karachi is set to face an intense heatwave this week, with temperatures expected to reach 42°C. The Pakistan Meteorological Department warned that extreme heat could affect daily life and public health. Residents across Karachi and Sindh, especially vulnerable groups, are expected to face the greatest impact.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast severe heatwave conditions across most parts of Sindh from Monday to Friday. Officials said a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere is driving the unusually hot weather. As a result, daytime temperatures are likely to remain four to six degrees above normal across the province.

Karachi division is expected to record maximum temperatures between 39°C and 42°C from June 9 to 12. Meanwhile, several upper Sindh districts could experience temperatures ranging from 48°C to 51°C. Areas including Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Dadu, Ghotki, Khairpur, and Shikarpur are likely to be hardest hit.
In response, authorities directed deputy commissioners and disaster management officials to implement precautionary measures immediately. The public has been advised to avoid direct sunlight during peak daytime hours. Additionally, citizens should stay hydrated and take extra care of children, women, and elderly family members. Energy providers are also preparing for increased electricity demand during the heatwave.

Furthermore, meteorologists warned that isolated dust storms may occur in plain areas due to intense heating. Farmers have been advised to protect crops and livestock from extreme temperatures. Officials also urged responsible water use as the province prepares for several days of exceptionally hot weather.
