Araghchi briefs six nations after US-Iran escalation

Published on: June 3, 2026 6:40 PM

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi launched a diplomatic outreach campaign after the latest military exchanges between Iran and the United States, holding telephone conversations with counterparts from six influential countries. The discussions came amid growing regional tensions following overnight attacks that further intensified concerns about stability across the Middle East and surrounding strategic waterways.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Araghchi spoke with the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Qatar, Egypt and France. During these conversations, he provided details about Iran’s response to recent US military actions and outlined Tehran’s position on the rapidly developing security situation. The calls reflected Iran’s efforts to engage key regional and international partners during a critical period.

Furthermore, Araghchi told his counterparts that Iran targeted American military facilities as an act of self-defence. Iranian officials argued that the measures were taken in response to US attacks and were intended to protect national security interests. His briefing aimed to explain Tehran’s actions and prevent misunderstandings as tensions continue to rise.

The diplomatic activity followed a night of military confrontation in which both Iran and the United States reportedly struck each other’s military targets. The exchange marked another serious escalation in an already volatile conflict and raised fears of a broader regional crisis. International observers continue to monitor developments closely as both sides exchange accusations and warnings.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said US forces targeted an Iranian oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz. According to the statement, the attack damaged the vessel’s engine room and disrupted its operations. The incident added a new maritime dimension to the conflict, drawing attention to one of the world’s most important energy routes.

In response, Iranian forces reportedly launched naval missiles toward an American-Israeli vessel, further increasing concerns about security in Gulf waters. The latest developments underscore the growing risk of wider confrontation, while diplomatic efforts continue alongside military actions. Regional governments and global powers are now watching closely for signs of either further escalation or a possible return to dialogue.
