Meta Platforms plans to test an AI-powered pendant next year as it expands its wearable technology strategy. The company aims to strengthen its hardware business and reduce mounting losses. The move could affect consumers, businesses, and the growing market for AI-powered devices.
The planned AI pendant is part of a broader roadmap focused on wearable technology. According to a report by The Information, Meta also intends to expand its lineup of AI smart glasses. In addition, the company is developing a business-focused service called “Wearables for Work” to attract enterprise customers.

The initiative comes as Meta seeks new revenue streams from hardware products. The company’s Reality Labs division reported a first-quarter loss of $4.03 billion despite generating $402 million in revenue. As a result, Meta is increasing investment in products that combine artificial intelligence with everyday wearable devices.
Furthermore, Meta reportedly aims to sell 10 million wearable devices during the second half of 2026. The company plans to achieve that target by launching new products and expanding sales into additional markets. Meta already collaborates with eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica to produce AI-powered smart glasses under the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands.

The company has also strengthened its wearable ambitions through acquisitions. Last year, Meta acquired Limitless, a startup known for a pendant-style device that records and transcribes conversations. Meta declined to comment on the report, but the plans highlight its continued push into next-generation AI hardware.
