
António Guterres strongly condemned the deadly train blast in Quetta that killed at least 14 people on Sunday. The United Nations chief called terrorism unacceptable in all forms and demanded accountability for those responsible. His remarks came after a powerful explosion targeted a passenger shuttle train near Chaman Phatak in Quetta.
The blast struck the train early Sunday while it travelled from Quetta Cantonment Railway Station toward the city railway station. Officials confirmed that at least 14 people, including three Frontier Corps personnel, lost their lives in the attack. Another 20 people suffered injuries in one of Quetta’s deadliest recent terrorist incidents.

In a statement shared on X, Guterres expressed solidarity with the people and government of Pakistan. He stressed that the perpetrators, facilitators, and financiers behind the attack must face justice. The statement also reaffirmed the United Nations’ support for Pakistan’s ongoing efforts against terrorism and violent extremism.

Several Pakistani leaders strongly condemned the attack and vowed to eliminate terrorism from the country. Asif Ali Zardari, Shehbaz Sharif, and Ishaq Dar denounced the bombing and expressed condolences to victims’ families. Provincial leaders from Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also pledged stronger security measures.

International missions from Iran, Britain, Russia, and China joined global condemnation of the attack. Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan voiced concern over worsening insecurity in Balochistan. The commission urged authorities to improve civilian protection and ensure accountability against those responsible for terrorist violence.
