Security forces killed five terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan on Thursday. The operation targeted militants hiding in the Spinwam area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s troubled district. Moreover, security sources confirmed the death of a highly wanted militant commander during the successful raid.
According to security officials, the killed commander was Umar alias Jan Mir, also known as Tor Saqib. Authorities said he masterminded several terrorist attacks against security forces and civilians in the region. Furthermore, the government had placed a Rs3 million bounty on the militant leader due to his involvement in terrorism activities. Officials also linked him to bomb planting and constructing militant fortifications near Bobali Mosque in Spinwam.

Security forces launched the operation after receiving intelligence about terrorist movements and hideouts in the area. Troops reportedly surrounded the militants using a coordinated strategy before eliminating all five terrorists successfully. In addition, officials stated that the operation dealt a major setback to militant networks operating in North Waziristan. Experts described the commander’s killing as an important step toward restoring peace and stability in the region.
Authorities said counter-terrorism operations under Operation Azm-i-Istehkam were continuing successfully across affected areas. Pakistan has intensified military operations because militant violence sharply increased during the previous year. According to security reports, terrorist attacks rose significantly in 2025, especially across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Meanwhile, officials repeatedly urged Afghanistan’s Taliban administration to dismantle militant sanctuaries allegedly linked to banned terrorist groups.

The latest operation follows several recent crackdowns against militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s sensitive districts. Earlier this week, security forces killed 22 India-sponsored terrorists in North Waziristan during another operation. Last month, troops also eliminated 22 terrorists during a joint intelligence-based operation in Khyber district. Finally, authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continuing counter-terrorism efforts until lasting peace returns to the region.
