The package includes a range of operational support components such as pilot training, simulation systems, maintenance services, spare parts, and other technical assistance required to keep the helicopters fully operational.
India currently operates around 28 Apache attack helicopters, which are considered among the most advanced combat helicopters in the world and are widely used for precision strike and battlefield support missions.
In a separate approval, the US State Department also cleared a support package for ultra-light howitzers, valued at approximately $230 million, further expanding India’s access to advanced defence systems and logistical support.
Officials said such agreements are part of routine foreign military sales that aim to strengthen defence interoperability between partner nations and ensure sustained operational readiness of US-made systems in allied countries.
The approvals come amid continued expansion of US-India strategic and defence ties, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region, where both countries have increased cooperation in response to evolving security challenges.

The deal is expected to enhance India’s existing combat aviation capabilities while ensuring long-term maintenance and operational efficiency of its Apache fleet through continued US technical support.
