Muhammad Uzair completed his PhD research under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ra’ana Malik, a senior faculty member in the Department of Gender Studies. His work contributes to growing academic literature on the intersection of gender, vulnerability, and climate-induced disasters in Pakistan.

His dissertation is titled “Exploring Gendered Vulnerabilities and Adaptive Capacities in Flood-Affected Areas of South Punjab.” The study focuses on how flooding impacts different segments of society in South Punjab, with particular emphasis on gender-based vulnerabilities and the coping mechanisms adopted by affected communities.

According to the department, the research highlights the social, economic, and structural challenges faced by vulnerable populations during and after flood events. It also examines how women and other marginalized groups experience disaster situations differently due to existing inequalities and limited access to resources.

The study further explores adaptive capacities within flood-affected communities, analysing how local populations respond to recurring climate-related crises. It aims to provide insights that may contribute to more inclusive disaster management policies and gender-sensitive planning frameworks.

The University of the Punjab, Lahore University of the Punjab, Lahore has emphasized the importance of research in addressing pressing national challenges, particularly those related to climate change, social inequality, and sustainable development.

Faculty members and peers have appreciated the completion of the dissertation, noting its relevance to Pakistan’s increasing vulnerability to climate-related disasters, especially in rural and low-lying regions of Punjab.
