Nick Lachey details run-in with Jessica Simpson on flight 20 years after divorce

Published on: May 16, 2026 4:00 AM

Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson’s impromptu reunion is now officially a public affair. Indeed, nearly two months after reports surfaced that the 98 Degrees alum-whose divorce from Jessica was finalised in 2006-ran into the “Irresistible” singer on a flight, Nick confirmed the former couple did, in fact, cross paths.

“It was strangely okay,” he told host Andy Cohen during his May 13 appearance on Watch What Happens Live. “You know, it’s been 20 years since-and so we haven’t seen each other in those 20 years and then spent six and a half hours on a flight to Hawaii together. But when I say spent-in the same vicinity.”

The Love Is Blind host confirmed he was aboard with wife Vanessa Lachey and their kids, while Jessica was traveling with her mom, ex Eric Johnson and their kids as well.

“Everyone was very, very cordial, very respectful,” Nick added. “It was honestly fine.”

Prior to his most recent comments, the “I Do” singer shared rare insight into filming MTV’s Newlyweds, the reality show he filmed with his ex from 2003 to 2005.

“Newlyweds obviously became a huge reality show,” Nick said during an episode of Richer Lives in 2025, noting that the series started off as a “vehicle to promote music.”

“My ex-wife had an album coming out, I had an album coming out,” he shared at the time. “We had no idea it was going to take on this other life of being this reality fly-on-the-wall type of show.”

And after the “totally unexpected” success of the show, Nick found himself gaining an entirely new fanbase.

“What reality TV did for me,” he said, “is it allowed me to introduce myself as Nick Lachey-the person-to the world. And even guys around me, ‘He’s kind of cool. I’d have a beer with that guy.'”

In fact, for Nick, the reality series “opened up a different world” for him as an entertainer. “No one ever got to see that side of me before,” he said. “It allowed me to become very comfortable being myself.
