Amrita Puri backs Deepika Padukone over 8-hour shift demand

Published on: May 12, 2026 6:49 PM

Amrita Puri has publicly supported Deepika Padukone amid ongoing debate in Bollywood over her reported demand for an eight-hour work shift. The discussion has gained momentum across the film industry, as concerns over working conditions, long schedules, and workplace fairness continue to dominate conversations about production practices in high-pressure shooting environments.

Amrita Puri stated that the issue reflects deeper structural problems in the entertainment industry rather than an individual actor’s personal preference. She explained that long working hours, unpaid overtime, and unequal expectations often affect performers, especially women, while pointing out that exhausting schedules have become normalized in many film productions over the years.

Furthermore, she shared her own experience of working extremely long shifts, including 16-hour shooting days and overnight schedules without additional compensation. She described these practices as problematic and emphasized that such conditions highlight the need for clearer rules and healthier boundaries to protect artists working in demanding production environments.

According to Amrita Puri, the debate surrounding Deepika Padukone’s reported request should not be treated as an isolated controversy. Instead, she argued it reflects a broader industry issue where established norms often overlook the importance of work-life balance, rest, and fair treatment, particularly for actors managing personal and professional responsibilities simultaneously.

The discussion intensified after reports suggested that Deepika Padukone stepped away from a film project due to disagreements over working conditions, including her request for an eight-hour work limit following motherhood. While critics questioned the practicality of such demands in film production, supporters argued it highlights evolving expectations around workplace flexibility and health considerations.

At the same time, Kangana Ranaut also supported Deepika’s position, stating that successful actors often earn the right to negotiate working hours based on personal circumstances. The ongoing debate has sparked wider industry reflection on gender roles, motherhood, and the need for more balanced working structures in Bollywood’s demanding production system.
