Kuwait backs Pakistan during fuel disruption

Published on: May 12, 2026 3:45 PM

Kuwait agreed to explore strategic fuel storage projects in Pakistan to strengthen bilateral energy cooperation. Pakistan and Kuwait also discussed expanding collaboration in refining and petroleum sectors. The development comes amid regional tensions affecting fuel supply routes and energy security.

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met Kuwait’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi on Tuesday. According to an official statement, both sides reviewed regional developments and discussed future energy cooperation. They also agreed to strengthen bilateral ties and pursue projects offering mutual economic benefits. The discussions focused particularly on strategic storage and refining opportunities.

During the meeting, Malik thanked the Government of Kuwait for facilitating the safe dispatch of the vessel Khairpur. The vessel reached Pakistan carrying diesel supplies during disruptions caused by the Strait of Hormuz closure. Officials said the shipment included nearly 45,000 tons of diesel and 10,000 tons of jet fuel. Kuwait approved the shipment under special arrangements during a challenging regional situation.

Malik said Pakistan remained committed to peace and regional stability despite ongoing tensions. He added that the conflict’s effects were impacting countries across and beyond the region. The minister stated that coordinated efforts by the Field Marshal and Prime Minister ensured the vessel safely reached Pakistan. He noted the shipment helped maintain uninterrupted fuel supplies and supported national energy requirements.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to stronger cooperation in energy and petroleum sectors. They also agreed to continue exploring new investment and infrastructure opportunities in the future.
