Erica Robin backs Aurat March activists

Published on: May 7, 2026 10:30 PM

Model Erica Robin has called on women in Pakistan to support the Aurat March and stand in solidarity with its organisers following the arrest of activist Sheema Kermani in Karachi. She made the remarks in a video message shared on social media, where she criticised those opposing the movement. Her statement comes amid renewed debate over women’s rights activism in the country.

Robin expressed concern over reports that Aurat March organisers were facing challenges in obtaining a No Objection Certificate for the upcoming event. She described the situation as “disturbing” and criticised women who, in her view, were discouraging other women from advocating for their rights. She said such behaviour was “shameful” and undermined respect for women in society.

The model also reacted to visuals showing Sheema Kermani being detained by police, saying she was shocked by both the incident and public reactions online. She criticised comments made on social media, arguing that women should not contribute to the suppression of other women’s voices. She linked such attitudes to broader issues of societal inequality and silence around abuse.

Robin further said that freedom of expression remains limited and that speaking openly on social issues often leads to backlash. She encouraged people in Karachi to participate in the upcoming march, while acknowledging that some may feel unsafe attending. For those unable to join physically, she urged them to raise awareness on social media platforms.

She also appealed to public figures to support women facing arrest for peaceful protest, saying awareness costs nothing but can create impact. Robin emphasized that social responsibility should accompany visibility and influence. She concluded that continued silence would not lead to meaningful change for women’s rights in Pakistan.
