PTI raises alarm over Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi health

Published on: May 7, 2026 3:50 PM

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Gohar Ali Khan has demanded the immediate transfer of former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to a hospital for medical treatment and detailed examinations. He expressed serious concern regarding their health conditions and urged authorities to ensure proper care under the supervision of personal doctors and family members.

In his statement, Barrister Gohar revealed that Bushra Bibi was reportedly taken to hospital late at night for an eye laser procedure before being moved back to Adiala jail. He further stated that he had requested permission for a family meeting, while stressing that growing concerns surrounding the couple’s health now require urgent medical attention and transparency from prison authorities.

Moreover, the PTI chairman criticised what he described as a “seek and hide” approach regarding the medical condition of both detainees. He argued that authorities should immediately shift Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to hospital facilities where medical tests and treatment could continue openly in the presence of their family members and trusted doctors to avoid further public concern.

According to sources, Bushra Bibi recently visited Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital under strict security arrangements for a scheduled follow-up examination linked to her earlier eye surgery. Doctors had reportedly operated on her right eye last month after diagnosing retinal detachment, following complaints of blurred vision and deteriorating eyesight inside Adiala jail.

Sources also stated that specialists conducted several follow-up examinations within the prison after the surgery performed on April 17 by Dr Nadeem Qureshi and a medical panel. After remaining under observation overnight at the hospital, Bushra Bibi was discharged and transferred back to jail, where she continues serving sentences in multiple high-profile corruption and Toshakhana-related cases.

Meanwhile, PTI leaders continue demanding improved medical access and transparency regarding the health of the former prime minister and first lady. The party maintains that both detainees require proper hospital treatment instead of limited prison-based medical care, especially considering the seriousness of Bushra Bibi’s recent eye condition and concerns surrounding Imran Khan’s overall health situation.
