Poll Finds Many Americans Question Trump’s Fitness for Office

Published on: May 5, 2026 6:03 AM

Donald Trump

Poll Finds Many Americans questioning whether Donald Trump is fit to serve effectively as commander-in-chief. The survey reflects growing public concern about both mental and physical readiness for national leadership.

According to a joint poll conducted by The Washington Post, ABC News, and Ipsos, 59 percent of respondents said Trump lacks the mental sharpness required for the role. This finding highlights a significant perception gap among voters.

Meanwhile, 55 percent of adults surveyed said Trump’s physical health is not strong enough for the demands of the presidency. These concerns suggest that many Americans question his overall ability to handle the pressures of office.

However, the poll also showed that 40 percent of respondents believe Trump remains fully capable of leading the country. In addition, a small percentage of participants chose not to respond to the questions.

Furthermore, 67 percent of those surveyed said they do not believe Trump can make important national decisions effectively. On the other hand, 44 percent disagreed with this view, indicating divided public opinion on leadership competence.

Overall, the results reveal a mixed but largely critical perception of Donald Trump’s readiness. Therefore, Poll Finds Many Americans questioning his fitness may influence political debate and voter sentiment in the coming period.
