China issued a strong statement for end to US unilateral sanctions

Published on: May 2, 2026 1:00 PM

China has issued a strong statement urging the United States to immediately stop what it describes as the misuse of unilateral sanctions imposed without international legal backing, escalating diplomatic tensions between the two global powers.

According to reports, Liu Pengyu, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, said that China firmly opposes unilateral sanctions and so-called “long-arm jurisdiction” practices that are not based on international law. He emphasized that such measures disrupt normal economic and trade activities between Chinese companies and international partners.

The statement comes amid ongoing friction between Washington and Beijing over trade policies, technology restrictions, and geopolitical influence. Chinese officials argue that US sanctions are increasingly being used as a political tool that interferes with legitimate global commerce and undermines the stability of international supply chains.

Liu stressed that normal business operations involving Chinese companies should not face external interference or restrictions imposed by third countries. He added that China will continue to take necessary steps to protect the legal rights and interests of its companies operating abroad.

The Chinese position reflects growing concerns in Beijing over expanding US sanctions targeting various sectors, including technology, energy, and financial services. Officials say these actions have had wider implications for global trade and investment flows.

The statement also called on the United States to respect international norms and avoid actions that could further strain already fragile economic relations between the two countries. Chinese authorities reiterated their commitment to defending fair trade practices and maintaining stable international economic cooperation.

Analysts say the latest remarks highlight the deepening divide between the world’s two largest economies, as both sides continue to compete for influence in global markets and strategic regions.

Diplomatic observers believe that unless dialogue channels improve, tensions over sanctions and trade restrictions could continue to shape US-China relations in the coming months, affecting global economic stability and investor confidence.
