IPL sanctions Parag over vaping

Published on: April 30, 2026 9:29 PM

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has fined Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag after he was found using an e-cigarette during a match. The incident took place during a recent fixture against Punjab Kings, drawing disciplinary action from league authorities. The case has raised concerns over player conduct and league regulations.

According to IPL officials, Parag was seen vaping inside the dressing room during the match. As a result, he was fined 25% of his match fee and handed one demerit point. The league said the act violated rules related to conduct that brings the game into disrepute.

The IPL confirmed that Parag accepted both the charge and the penalty imposed by match referee Amit Sharma. The disciplinary action was taken under existing code of conduct regulations. Furthermore, the incident has triggered discussions about professional standards within the league.

Vaping is banned in India, including the sale, production, import, and advertising of e-cigarettes. Therefore, the incident has also drawn attention beyond cricketing circles. Authorities may consider further action depending on review outcomes.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly examining whether additional measures are required. Meanwhile, the IPL continues to emphasize strict adherence to behavioral and ethical guidelines. Officials say protecting the league’s reputation remains a top priority.
