Emergency responders rushed to the scene immediately after the incident, where damaged carriages and injured passengers were found. Officials said 84 people sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could rise further.

Railway authorities stated that one of the trains involved in the collision was carrying approximately 240 passengers, all of whom have been accounted for and confirmed safe. Rescue operations are still underway for passengers aboard the second train, with teams working to ensure no one remains trapped inside the wreckage.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the crash occurred at Bekasi railway station, though the exact cause has not yet been determined. Investigators have launched a formal inquiry to examine whether technical failure, human error, or signalling issues contributed to the accident.

The incident has raised renewed concerns about rail safety standards in Indonesia, where crowded routes and ageing infrastructure have previously been linked to transportation accidents.

Authorities have pledged a thorough investigation and promised to release findings once more information becomes available. Meanwhile, rescue teams continue to clear the site and assist victims.
