Russian strike kills four in Ukraine

Published on: April 25, 2026 4:58 PM

A major Russian aerial assault on Ukraine killed four people and injured more than 30 others in overnight strikes. The attacks hit multiple regions, including Dnipro and Chernihiv, causing widespread damage to urban infrastructure.

The escalation matters as it intensifies the ongoing war and increases pressure on air defense systems and international support for Ukraine. Civilians in affected regions are bearing the direct impact of the strikes.

The strikes involved more than 660 drones and missiles launched across Ukraine, according to officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attacks targeted cities and communities throughout the night. In Dnipro, at least two people were killed when a building was hit, while several others remained trapped under rubble. Local authorities also reported 21 injuries in the city.

In northern Ukraine, the Chernihiv region also suffered deadly strikes. Officials said missile and drone attacks killed two people and injured seven others. Rescue teams continued searching through damaged buildings amid fears of more casualties. The attacks reflect a pattern of repeated large-scale strikes combined with smaller nightly drone barrages.

Ukraine’s air force reported it intercepted most incoming weapons during the assault. Officials said they downed 580 drones and 30 missiles out of the total launched. Despite this, significant damage still occurred across civilian areas and infrastructure. Ukrainian leaders renewed calls for stronger air defense systems from international partners.

Meanwhile, Russia continues its strategy of sustained aerial pressure alongside periodic large attacks. The war has seen repeated escalation cycles, with both sides reporting ongoing strikes and countermeasures. The latest attack highlights the continuing intensity of the conflict and the humanitarian toll on Ukrainian cities and civilians.
