A spokesperson for the Secretary-General urged all sides to respect the ceasefire and avoid actions that could escalate tensions. The statement emphasized that restraint and constructive engagement are essential at this stage, as the situation remains sensitive.

Guterres also stressed the importance of sustained and result-oriented negotiations. He highlighted that only comprehensive dialogue can lead to a durable and peaceful resolution of the dispute. According to the UN, the current pause in hostilities offers a critical opportunity to pursue political solutions over military confrontation.

Earlier, President Trump announced that the ceasefire would be extended following requests from Pakistan’s leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He stated that military action against Iran had been postponed to allow time for negotiations and possible proposals from Iranian leadership.

Trump further indicated that while direct attacks had been halted, certain measures such as strategic pressure would remain in place. He added that the ceasefire would continue until negotiations reach a conclusion or a mutually acceptable path forward is achieved.
