
The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday issued standard operating procedures to ensure uninterrupted judicial work during unforeseen public holidays. The decision aims to maintain continuity in urgent legal proceedings across the country. It directly affects courts, litigants, and lawyers nationwide.
According to the court, administrative and judicial functions will continue during emergently declared public holidays. Only essential staff will remain on duty under minimum arrangements. Moreover, the Chief Justice may issue specific directions when required.

The SOPs prioritize urgent civil and criminal matters for immediate hearing. These include bail applications, family disputes, and cases involving elderly prisoners. Additionally, compromise petitions and urgent review cases will receive priority.
To reduce backlog, at least 40 percent of cause lists will include older pending cases up to 2018. Newer cases will be added progressively where necessary. Furthermore, special facilitation has been introduced for lawyers from Sindh and Balochistan.

Meanwhile, the court plans to introduce automated case fixation and improved scheduling systems. Officials say these reforms aim to enhance transparency and reduce delays. The Supreme Court reaffirmed its commitment to efficient and technology-driven justice delivery.
