Israel strikes south Lebanon despite ceasefire, says it's targeting Hezbollah military sites | CBC News

Despite a declared ceasefire, Israel military operations have reportedly continued in southern Lebanon, where several residential homes and buildings have been destroyed using explosives, according to local and official sources.

The Israeli state news agency reported that the Israel Defense Forces carried out ground operations in multiple villages, including areas around the town of Bint Jbeil. During these operations, residential structures were allegedly demolished through controlled detonations, raising concerns over continued escalation in the region.

In a separate development, Israel’s Defense Minister issued strong remarks, warning Hezbollah leadership and suggesting possible targeted action against its senior figures. The minister also stated that Israeli forces would not withdraw from areas currently under their control, signaling continued military presence despite the ceasefire agreement.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah claimed it had retaliated against Israeli forces, stating that it destroyed several Israeli tanks during recent confrontations. These claims have not been independently verified.

Funeral prayers were held across Lebanon for those killed in the ongoing conflict, with large numbers of civilians attending ceremonies nationwide. The humanitarian situation continues to worsen as violence persists in multiple regions.

According to reported figures, the total death toll in Lebanon since the start of the conflict has reached 2,387, while 7,602 people have been injured. The continuing hostilities have raised international concern over the stability of the ceasefire and the risk of broader regional escalation.

Diplomatic observers warn that ongoing military actions on both sides could undermine peace efforts and further destabilize an already fragile security situation in the region.
