Apni Chat Apna Ghar: Punjab distributes over Rs191 bln funds

The Government of Punjab has distributed more than Rs191 billion under its flagship “Apni Chat Apna Ghar” housing initiative, aimed at supporting low-income families in building their own homes. The update was shared by Provincial Housing Minister Bilal Yasin.

According to the Punjab Housing Department, the funds have been provided in the form of interest-free loans to eligible individuals across the province. So far, financial assistance has been extended to 135,410 families, enabling them to begin or complete construction of their houses.

Bilal Yasin highlighted that more than 91,000 houses have already been completed under the scheme, calling it a record achievement. He added that around 42,000 houses are currently under construction and are expected to be completed within the current financial year.

The minister shared these details during a meeting with Sikandar Zeeshan, Director General of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency. He noted that the recovery of over Rs10 billion in instalments reflects the transparency and sustainability of the programme.

Yasin further stated that the initiative has turned the dream of home ownership into reality for many low-income families. He revealed that more than 1.176 million applications have been received under the scheme, indicating strong public interest.

The programme traces back to 2024, when Maryam Nawaz announced a comprehensive plan to construct 100,000 houses for underprivileged citizens. The project includes plans to build over 3,000 houses in each district of Punjab.

Officials say the initiative continues to expand, aiming to address housing shortages and improve living standards across the province.
