China backs ceasefire push in Iran talks

Published on: April 16, 2026 7:29 PM

China has expressed strong support for ongoing ceasefire efforts in the Middle East, saying a “window for peace is opening” amid escalating tensions. The statement came after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The remarks highlight growing international involvement in efforts to stabilize the region.

Wang Yi said the current situation has reached a critical stage between war and peace. He stressed that China supports maintaining momentum in ceasefire negotiations and broader peace talks. He also emphasized respect for Iran’s sovereignty, security, and legitimate rights.
