Iranian drones struck the US embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, causing extensive damage and raising regional security concerns. The attacks exposed flaws in US missile defense and targeted key embassy areas. US personnel and intelligence operations in Saudi Arabia were directly affected by the strikes.
Reports indicate the first Iranian drone hit the embassy, creating a hole in the building. Within a minute, a second drone struck the same location, damaging secure sections. The resulting fire burned for half a day, highlighting the severity of the attack and insufficient immediate containment.

US media revealed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s earlier statements underestimated the destruction. The embassy suffered damage to three floors, and the CIA station inside was also targeted. Several additional drones were launched hours later but were intercepted by missile defense systems, showing ongoing threats to US assets in the region.
The attacks nearly hit the residence of a senior US diplomat located close to the embassy. Former CIA officer Bernard Hodson said the strikes demonstrate Iran’s ability to target critical locations in Riyadh. Previous Iranian attacks also hit Prince Sultan Air Base, striking AWACS and refueling aircraft, with missile defenses failing to prevent damage.
