Bondi, a close ally of Trump, had been serving as the nation’s top law enforcement official since early 2025. In a statement, she described the role as “the honour of a lifetime” and pledged to ensure a smooth transition. She will be replaced by her former deputy, Todd Blanche.
Pam Bondi led this Department with strength and conviction and I’m grateful for her leadership and friendship.
Thank you to President Trump for the trust and the opportunity to serve as Acting Attorney General.
We will continue backing the blue, enforcing the law, and doing… https://t.co/ourLJWGAqv

Her tenure was marked by controversy, particularly over the handling of documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Bondi had promised transparency and the release of a purported client list, but later the Justice Department stated that no such list existed. The eventual release of millions of records drew bipartisan criticism, with lawmakers raising concerns about both privacy protections for victims and accountability for alleged offenders.
Bondi’s departure comes shortly after the removal of Kristi Noem, signaling continued reshuffling within Trump’s cabinet. While some Republican allies praised her leadership, critics from both parties welcomed the decision, citing dissatisfaction with her handling of key investigations.
In recent months, Bondi had also faced scrutiny over the Justice Department’s investigations into political figures, including Adam Schiff and Letitia James. Additionally, she was expected to appear before a congressional committee to answer questions regarding the Epstein case.

Despite defending her performance earlier in the day, Trump later confirmed her exit, highlighting growing frustration within the administration. Bondi now becomes one of several senior officials to leave during Trump’s second term, though his current administration has seen fewer abrupt changes compared to his first presidency.
