Syria’s assistant defence minister confirmed that Syrian forces successfully repelled a drone attack from Iraq targeting the US base in Qasrak, stating that all four drones were shot down without causing casualties.
The attack prompted Damascus to hold Iraq responsible, urging Baghdad to prevent future assaults that could threaten regional stability, amid escalating tensions following the US-Israel strikes against Iran in late February.

This latest assault came just a day after Syrian forces reported repelling a drone attack from Iraq aimed at al-Tanf, a base in the southeast that previously hosted US forces.
Earlier in the week, a missile attack targeted another base in northeastern Syria, with Iraqi officials confirming the arrest of four individuals linked to the strike, reportedly carried out by a local armed group.

Pro-Tehran Iraqi factions have claimed responsibility for multiple attacks on US positions both inside Iraq and across the Middle East, while American forces have simultaneously targeted these groups in retaliation.
In recent months, US troops have withdrawn from several bases, including al-Tanf and Shadadi, and have begun pulling back from Qasrak in Hasakeh province, signaling a gradual reduction of American presence in northeastern Syria.
