Iran outlines six conditions for potential ceasefire

Published on: March 24, 2026 4:00 PM

Israel-Iran day 11 as it happened: Donald Trump says Israel and Iran have agreed ceasefire; Tehran gave advance notice of strike against US military base in Qatar

TEHRAN — Iran has presented six key strategic conditions for halting the ongoing conflict, according to reports in Iranian media, signaling a firm stance as diplomatic efforts continue to seek de-escalation.

An unnamed official, cited by local outlets, said regional parties and mediators had approached Tehran with proposals to end the war. In response, Iran outlined a new legal and strategic framework, placing strict conditions on any potential ceasefire.

The foremost condition is a guarantee that hostilities will not resume. Iran has also demanded the closure of US military bases in the region, along with the withdrawal of what it described as “aggressors” and the payment of compensation for damages suffered during the conflict.

Additional conditions include a complete cessation of fighting across all regional fronts and the implementation of a new legal regime governing the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy corridor. Iran further called for legal action against what it termed anti-Iran media operations, including potential expulsions.

It remains unclear through which intermediaries these conditions were conveyed to the United States and Israel. Tehran has repeatedly denied claims by Donald Trump that negotiations are underway, insisting that no direct talks have taken place.

Iranian security and political officials have urged that the conditions be taken seriously, stating that the country is pursuing a calculated and strategic approach to the conflict. They claimed Iran has achieved significant military advantages, including damaging enemy air defense systems and asserting control over contested airspace.

Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, Iranian officials indicated that an immediate ceasefire appears unlikely under current circumstances, underscoring the complexity of negotiations and the challenges facing mediators seeking to end the conflict.
