As Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 approaches, demand for fresh currency notes rises sharply across Pakistan. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) provides official facilities to ensure organized access to new notes for Eidi. Citizens are strongly advised to follow official channels and avoid buying notes from unauthorized street vendors.
The SBP activates a special SMS service during the last weeks of Ramadan to simplify the process. Citizens send their CNIC number and preferred bank branch code to 8877. In return, they receive a transaction code and the bank branch address for collection. Priority is usually given to account holders, and banks distribute notes in limited quantities to ensure fairness.

Required documents include the original CNIC, a photocopy, and the transaction code. Commonly available denominations are Rs 10, Rs 20, and Rs 50, which are most suitable for children and relatives. The bank staff verifies all documents before providing the fresh notes in small packets, making the process smooth and transparent.
If the SMS service is busy, citizens can visit commercial bank branches directly or the State Bank offices in major cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. ATMs are also loaded with cleaner notes, mainly Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, during the last ten days of Ramadan. Proper planning and early visits help avoid long queues and ensure everyone can access fresh notes.

The SBP warns that selling new currency notes at higher prices in markets is illegal and punishable by law. Citizens should obtain notes only through official channels. Following these guidelines allows families to celebrate Eid smoothly, distribute Eidi respectfully, and maintain the tradition of giving crisp, fresh notes to loved ones.
