Punjab CM orders action against profiteers, announces Ramazan relief for 4 million families

Published on: February 18, 2026 1:34 AM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to take strict action against profiteers and hoarders ahead of Ramazan, while announcing that Ramazan Nigehban cards will be provided to four million families across the province.

Chairing a meeting on the Ramazan relief programme, here on Tuesday, the chief minister instructed the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) and price control committees to implement effective measures to curb inflation and ensure the availability of essential commodities at notified rates. She also ordered the removal of restrictions on market and shopping centre timings during the holy month.

The CM said that over 400,000 Nigehban cards had already been delivered to beneficiaries’ doorsteps, and distribution to all four million families would be completed by the 10th of Ramazan. Under the programme, each family will receive Rs 10,000, withdrawable via ATMs. She warned that any agent or official found demanding money from the public would face strict punishment. Authorities reported that 167 camp sites had been established across districts to facilitate beneficiaries.

The chief minister further directed enhanced security at mosques, bus terminals, and railway stations during Ramazan, alongside improved sanitation measures in cities. Relief will also be extended through Ramazan and Sahulat bazaars, where essential food items are being sold at approximately 15% below market rates.

Additionally, nearly 300 Nigehban dastarkhwans will be set up in 147 cities to provide quality meals to fasting people, while special decorations and cleanliness drives are being carried out across urban centres.

The CM emphasised that Ramazan is a month of compassion and that state institutions must ensure relief reaches citizens, particularly low-income families.
