Sindh has introduced a new vehicle registration system linking car number plates to owners’ CNIC, allowing individuals to retain their plates across multiple vehicles. The move is aimed at modernising the registration process and improving record transparency.
Officials in Karachi said the reform has been implemented through amendments to the Provincial Motor Vehicles Act 2024, enabling more accurate tracking of vehicle ownership and linking registration records directly to CNIC information for accountability.

The Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department Sindh issued the notification and announced the launch of two new vehicle number plate series. These plates will be officially connected to owners’ CNICs, ensuring a secure and verifiable registration process.
Provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla approved the implementation of the revised law, which also allows vehicle owners to transfer their previously registered plates to newly purchased vehicles, simplifying ownership procedures.

Officials explained that the initiative will enhance transparency, strengthen record management, and reduce bureaucratic hurdles in the vehicle registration process. They said it will also help authorities prevent misuse or fraudulent registration of vehicles.
The new system is expected to streamline registration services across Sindh, making it easier for citizens to manage vehicle ownership while improving efficiency in record-keeping and enforcement of transportation regulations.
