Thaker’s fifty sets Canada 151 against UAE

Published on: February 18, 2026 9:54 PM

Canada posted a competitive total of 151 runs against the United Arab Emirates in the 20th group stage match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Harsh Thaker starred with a resilient half-century that anchored the innings despite early losses.

Batting first, Canada struggled to build partnerships as UAE’s Junaid Siddique dominated with the ball, claiming key early wickets. Openers Yuvraj Samra and captain Dilpreet Bajwa fell cheaply for 5 and 11 runs, putting immediate pressure on the Canadian batting lineup.

Thaker top-scored with 50 off 41 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes before Siddique removed him. His innings provided stability and momentum, allowing the middle order to add crucial runs despite constant pressure from UAE bowlers.

Navneet Dhaliwal played a vital supporting role, scoring 34 off 28 balls with four boundaries before being run out by Mohammad Arfan. Shreyas Movva contributed a quick 21 off 21 deliveries, including two fours, before Siddique struck again to dismantle Canada’s resistance.

Other Canadian batters struggled to make an impact, with Nicholas Kirton dismissed for four and Jaskaran Singh remaining unbeaten on four. Dilon Heyliger finished the innings with a six on the final ball, bringing Canada to 150/7 in their 20 overs.

For UAE, Siddique’s exceptional five-wicket haul of 5/35 in four overs highlighted his dominance, while Muhammad Jawadullah supported with one wicket. His performance keeps UAE in a strong position as they chase the target.
