A Wazirabad court has sentenced Muhammad Naveed to an additional four years for illegal possession of arms, adding to the two life terms he is already serving for the 2022 assassination attempt on former premier Imran Khan.
Judicial Magistrate Fazl Elahi ruled Naveed guilty under the Punjab Arms (Amended) Ordinance 2015 and imposed a Rs40,000 fine, directing that the new sentence run concurrently with his existing terms in prison.

The case stems from November 3, 2022, when Naveed opened fire during Imran Khan’s PTI long march in Wazirabad. The former premier was shot in the shin, Senator Faisal Javed and several others were injured, and one party worker was killed.
Following the attack, Imran Khan publicly accused the then Pakistan Democratic Movement government and certain officials of involvement. Naveed was arrested on the spot, and the FIR was registered on November 7, 2022, with a joint investigation team formed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

In April 2025, an Anti-Terrorism Court sentenced Naveed to two life terms under Pakistan Penal Code Section 302(b) for premeditated murder and ATA Section 7(a) for acts of terrorism. Two co-accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
The court has now authorised the Superintendent of Central Jail Gujranwala to implement the additional four-year sentence. Legal observers say the ruling reinforces strict measures against political violence and illegal arms possession in Pakistan.
