RAWALPINDI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, on Monday over her continued absence from hearings related to the November 26, 2024, protest in Islamabad.

During the proceedings, Aleema’s lawyer, Faisal Malik, requested that she be exempted from appearing in court until her bank accounts and identity card are unfrozen. Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah opposed the request, stating that the suspect cannot dictate terms to the court or hijack proceedings. He criticized Aleema for her “irresponsible behaviour” and stressed that her accounts and CNIC cannot be unblocked until she complies with court orders.

The court rejected her exemption request, issued notices to her guarantor, and adjourned the hearing until February 3. The Rawalpindi superintendent of police (SP) has been directed to arrest Aleema and produce her in court by tomorrow. Meanwhile, her bank accounts and CNIC will remain blocked until she appears. Aleema’s CNIC and passport were blocked by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in October 2025 in compliance with a previous court order.
The case relates to PTI supporters’ protest on November 26, 2024, when demonstrators defied a ban on public gatherings, clashing with law enforcement near D-Chowk in Islamabad. Police used teargas to disperse the crowd. The three-day protest aimed to pressure the government into releasing Imran Khan, who has been in jail since August 2023 on multiple cases ranging from corruption to terrorism, following his ouster from power through a no-trust motion in April 2022.
