ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan underwent an eye procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad, which hospital officials said was completed smoothly and without complications.

Professor Dr Rana Imran Sikander, executive director of Pims, confirmed on Friday that the 74-year-old remained “stable” throughout the intervention. The procedure lasted approximately 20 minutes, after which Imran was discharged with standard post-procedure care instructions and follow-up advice.

Dr Sikander said the former premier had complained of reduced vision in his right eye. A qualified ophthalmologist initially conducted a comprehensive eye assessment at Adiala jail, including laboratory tests, ocular endoscopy, intraocular pressure measurement, and optical coherence tomography of the retina. Based on these tests, a diagnosis of right central vein occlusion was made, and hospital-based treatment was recommended.

The patient was brought to Pims on the night of January 24 for the procedure. Dr Sikander said Imran was fully briefed about the intervention, and informed consent was obtained prior to its commencement. The procedure was carried out in the hospital’s operation theatre under standard sterile protocols and continuous monitoring.

The medical update comes after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) approached the Supreme Court seeking assistance in arranging a meeting between Imran Khan and his personal physicians, with support from the Chief Justice of Pakistan. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had earlier confirmed that the former premier had received medical attention for his eye condition last week.

Dr Sikander’s statement reassured the public that Imran’s condition was stable and that the procedure was performed safely. Hospital authorities advised continued follow-up care to monitor recovery and ensure proper management of the diagnosed condition.
