President Donald Trump’s administration criticised the organisation’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and accused it of failing to act independently.
US officials also argued that the country faced unfair financial obligations, claiming its contributions were disproportionate compared to payments made by other major member states.

In response, the World Health Organisation defended its actions during what it described as an unprecedented global health crisis.
It said the systems developed before, during, and after the pandemic operated continuously and played a vital role in protecting all countries, including the United States.
WHO leadership emphasised that cooperation, transparency, and shared responsibility remain the foundation of global health security.
It reiterated that collective action, rather than withdrawal, offers the most effective way to safeguard populations from future pandemics and health threats.
