Balochistan conducts first digital test for finance posts

Published on: January 19, 2026 10:03 AM

The Balochistan government on Sunday conducted its first fully digital and paperless recruitment test, marking a shift toward modernised hiring procedures in the provincial administration. The test was held for 111 Grade-14 sub-accountant positions in the finance department, with appointment letters issued to successful candidates on the same day.

According to officials, approximately 5,600 male and female applicants had submitted applications for the posts, while around 2,500 candidates appeared in the computer-based test conducted at the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS). The examination was overseen through a centralised digital system.

Finance Secretary Imran Zarkoon said that results were processed through a computerised mechanism to minimise human intervention and ensure transparency. He described the recruitment as purely merit-based, noting that the issuance of appointment letters late Sunday night reflected the government’s commitment to expedited hiring.

The provincial leadership hailed the move as a step towards institutional reform and improved governance standards. Addressing a ceremony for the distribution of appointment letters, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti termed the exercise a “historic milestone” that demonstrated the value of digital transparency in public sector recruitment.

Officials said the initiative aims to reduce bureaucratic delays, prevent malpractice, and encourage qualified youth to participate in provincial employment processes. The finance department is expected to gradually expand the digital testing model to future recruitments, with other departments likely to follow after initial evaluation.

The shift towards computer-based examinations comes as Balochistan seeks to enhance administrative efficiency and strengthen public trust in government hiring procedures. With a significant number of young graduates entering the workforce each year, officials said digitised testing could offer a more equitable, secure, and credible system for future recruitments across the province.
