CTD arrests 49 terrorists, including RAW agent

Published on: January 17, 2026 3:15 PM

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested 49 terrorists, including an Indian RAW agent, across Punjab cities this week. Authorities said operations were based on intelligence and aimed to prevent terror attacks. Explosives, weapons, and sensitive building blueprints were recovered from the arrested RAW agent.

Officials reported that seized materials also included bomb-making equipment and suicide jacket components. Initial investigations suggest terrorists planned attacks to spread fear among the public. The operations were carried out in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Toba Tek Singh, Hafizabad, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Faisalabad.

In the past month, CTD conducted 6,131 combing operations across the province. During these, 599 suspects were detained, and 243,546 people were questioned. Authorities emphasized intelligence-based operations remain a key tool to prevent terrorism.

CTD said it will continue intensified operations across Punjab due to ongoing security threats. Officials urged citizens to report suspicious activity and remain vigilant. The department aims to ensure public safety and disrupt terrorist networks before they strike.

Security experts noted these arrests highlight the importance of coordinated intelligence efforts. They also warned that regional spy networks remain active, reinforcing the need for continuous monitoring.
