
A global human rights report revealed that Muslims in India faced organized state oppression in 2025. The South Asia Justice Campaign reported 50 Muslims were killed in extrajudicial actions. Additionally, 23 were killed by Hindu extremist groups, while 27 died in communal attacks.
The report said anti-Muslim speeches triggered over 26 incidents of collective violence across 13 states. Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest killings, with six Muslims murdered. Violence also included attacks “in the name of cows,” leading to nine deaths and three forced suicides.

State-led oppression targeted Muslims in Kashmir, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, and other regions, the report noted. Seventeen Muslims, including two children, suffered direct violence. Over 4,000 Bengali-speaking Muslims were reportedly deported illegally from India.
Property destruction and forced evictions emerged as systematic patterns, according to the report. Experts warned that targeting Muslims based on religion risks social instability and threatens regional peace. The report emphasized that state complicity worsens communal tensions across India.

Observers say India’s religiously motivated discrimination undermines societal harmony. Human rights groups called for accountability and protection of minority communities. Analysts noted that addressing these issues is crucial to preserve democratic norms and prevent further unrest.
