Iran open to talks, prepared for war

Published on: January 12, 2026 6:20 PM

Iran’s foreign minister said the country is prepared for both war and negotiations. He made the remarks amid rising tensions with the United States. Meanwhile, he claimed the internal security situation is now fully under control.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said violence increased over the weekend due to terrorist actions. He stated that both protesters and security forces were targeted. However, he added that authorities have restored order across the country.

He said peaceful protests turned violent over the past two weeks. During this period, 350 mosques were set on fire nationwide. Nevertheless, he stressed that Iranian forces showed maximum restraint. He also said protesters’ demands were legitimate and heard by the government.

Araghchi claimed violence escalated after remarks about possible US intervention. He alleged the unrest aimed to create a justification for foreign involvement. Therefore, he warned against exploiting internal protests for external pressure.

He reiterated that Iran is ready for both conflict and dialogue. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said Iran contacted Washington for negotiations. However, Trump also warned that military options against Iran remain under consideration.
