Moscow calls US attack on Venezuela “armed aggression”

Published on: January 3, 2026 7:45 PM

Russia strongly condemned the United States’ recent attack on Venezuela, calling it “reprehensible” and a serious cause for concern. The Russian Foreign Ministry described the strike as an act of “armed aggression” and warned against further escalation. Moscow urged all parties to exercise restraint while emphasizing the need for peaceful resolution.

The ministry stressed that the reasons cited by the US to justify the attack are invalid and ideologically driven. Officials criticized Washington for prioritizing hostility over practical diplomacy. Russia highlighted the importance of building international relations on trust, predictability, and mutual respect rather than confrontation.

In its statement, Russia called for resolving the Venezuelan situation through negotiations and dialogue. Moscow emphasized that diplomatic channels must take precedence over military action. The Foreign Ministry warned that further US aggression could destabilize the region and threaten international security.

Russian officials highlighted that ideological motivations should not override pragmatic solutions in international conflicts. They stressed that military strikes often worsen political crises and increase humanitarian risks. Russia positioned itself as advocating for a rules-based, negotiation-focused approach to the Venezuela crisis.
