A severe cold wave swept across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday following intermittent rain in plain areas and snowfall in upper regions. Temperatures dropped sharply, particularly in northern and hilly districts, as winter conditions intensified.
In Chitral, a noticeable fall in temperature was recorded across the region. Around four inches of snow accumulated on the Lowari Tunnel Road, which links Chitral with the rest of the country, though traffic flow remained largely unaffected.

Snowfall was also reported in several parts of Chitral, including Laspur Valley, Reach, Trich, Madak Lisht, Arkari, Karimabad and Gabor. Slippery roads posed challenges for motorists in some remote areas.
An NGO vehicle belonging to the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat skidded off a snowy road in Awerik village of Anjigan Valley, Lower Chitral. The driver and two engineers onboard remained unhurt and were shifted to the Garm Chashma tehsil headquarters hospital.
Several mountainous areas of Lower and Upper South Waziristan also experienced the first rain and snowfall of the winter season. Residents reported light to moderate snowfall in high-altitude areas, while low-lying regions received intermittent rain.
Locals said the precipitation transformed the landscape, covering hills with snow and enhancing the natural beauty of the region. Many welcomed the weather change after a prolonged dry spell.
Farmers across the affected districts termed the rain and snowfall beneficial for agriculture. They said the moisture would improve soil fertility and support crops, particularly wheat, which is at a critical growth stage.

In Bajaur tribal district, moderate rainfall continued from midday until late Tuesday night, while mountainous areas received light snow. Residents said the weather turned significantly colder across the district.
However, the rain also caused power outages in parts of Bajaur, including Khar and surrounding areas. Residents complained of prolonged electricity suspension and urged authorities to restore supply without delay.
