Punjab on path of agri revolution, says CM Maryam

Published on: December 30, 2025 2:28 AM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that an agricultural revolution is underway in the province under the vision of PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, with historic initiatives aimed at empowering farmers and freeing them from exploitative middlemen.

In a statement, she said that over 800,000 farmers have received Kissan Cards for the first time in the country’s history, while Rs 250 billion in interest-free loans have been disbursed within a year, a record milestone.

The Kissan Card scheme allows farmers to purchase fertilizer, seed and pesticides directly through registered dealers instead of relying on middlemen. Hundreds of dealers have been registered across Punjab under the scheme, boosting agricultural business activity. Around 20 percent of farmers have also used the card to purchase diesel, helping them avoid debt and interest-based borrowing.

The CM said, “Punjab’s farmer is the benefactor of the entire country and his hard work cannot be fully repaid. All resources are available for our farmers, and we want to take agricultural development to its peak. Prosperous farmers of Punjab are my dream.”

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed a deep sense of sorrow and grief over the loss of lives in a road accident near Nankana Sahib and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The chief minister urged citizens to strictly observe traffic and safety regulations during unavoidable travel and appealed to the public to avoid travelling in dense fog unless absolutely necessary.
