Rain, snowfall to end Pakistan’s dry spell

Published on: December 12, 2025 4:17 PM

After a prolonged dry period, Pakistan is set to receive rain and snowfall from December 13 to 15, bringing relief to multiple provinces and improving water availability for agriculture and communities.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said a western disturbance approaching western regions will trigger light to moderate rain in plains and snowfall over hilly areas. The weather system is expected to cover most of northern and western Pakistan.

Northern districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Manshera, Abbottabad, and Bunner will see rain and snow during the forecast period. Gilgit-Baltistan regions like Skardu, Hunza, and Ghizer are also expected to receive precipitation, with occasional gaps.

Similarly, Kashmir areas such as Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, and Bagh will experience light rain and snowfall over hills, while Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, and Waziristan will have partly cloudy conditions with rain and snow on December 14 and 15.

The Met Office warned of dense fog in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh from December 12 to 16, which could reduce visibility and disrupt traffic. Travelers in mountainous areas like Naran, Kaghan, and Malam Jabba are advised to exercise caution due to slippery roads and potential landslides.

This weekend’s rainfall and snowfall will help reduce smog, replenish water resources, and support agriculture. Another western disturbance is expected from December 19, suggesting continued improvement in weather after months of dry conditions.
