The Sindh government has approved the launch of the second phase of its pink scooter scheme, aiming to provide safer and more independent travel options for women across the province. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon in Karachi on Wednesday.
During the meeting, officials also agreed to introduce four new routes under the People’s Bus Service in Khairpur, Shikarpur and Hyderabad. This expansion is expected to improve public transport access and offer greater convenience for daily commuters in these districts. Moreover, the move reflects the government’s broader efforts to strengthen transport infrastructure.

Earlier, Sharjeel Memon highlighted that the pink scooter initiative represents a major step towards women’s empowerment by offering safe, affordable and dignified mobility. He said the scheme would significantly benefit women who depend on public transport for education, employment and essential daily travel, ultimately making commuting easier and more reliable.
He added that the program would not only save travel time but also reduce overall transportation costs while creating a secure environment for women on the move. Applications from eligible women and students are being processed through the Sindh Mass Transit Authority to ensure accuracy and accessibility for all potential beneficiaries.
