IG reiterates zero tolerance against unlicensed driving

Published on: December 8, 2025 2:23 AM

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has said that no compromise will be made on the protection of schoolchildren, stressing that driving without a valid licence is equivalent to inviting death and accidents. The IG Punjab said driving without a licence is effectively a “license to kill,” something no country in the world permits. He said strikes cannot be justified when school vans overturn, innocent children lose their lives, and no one is held accountable, adding that such conduct is unacceptable in any civilized society. Dr Usman Anwar said parents have consistently demanded reforms in this system, and it is essential to support positive measures taken on this critical public safety issue. He reaffirmed that protecting the lives and property of citizens is the foremost responsibility of Punjab Police and that this duty will be performed without yielding to any pressure or strike. He said a grace period is being provided, but vehicles kept off the road will not be allowed to operate and will be seized. Since the matter concerns the safety of citizens, particularly children, strict responsibility must be exercised.

IG takes notice of three killings in Sadiqabad firing: IGP Dr. Usman Anwar has taken notice of a firing incident in Ahmad Garden, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, in which three people were killed, and sought a report from the RPO Bahawalpur. The IG Punjab directed the DPO Rahim Yar Khan to ensure the immediate arrest of the suspects involved in the incident, stressing that all available resources must be utilised to bring the culprits to justice. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, the deceased were identified as Khursheeda Bibi, Farzana Bibi and Sufiyan. Police and forensic teams have collected evidence from the crime scene, while special teams have been constituted on the instructions of the DPO Rahim Yar Khan to apprehend the accused.
