United Nations experts have raised serious concerns over human rights violations in Indian-administered Kashmir. They warned India to adhere to international human rights laws following the recent Pulwama attack. The experts highlighted mass arrests, restrictions on journalists, and actions against civil society members.
According to the UN specialists, nearly 2,800 people, including journalists and human rights activists, have been detained by Indian authorities. They condemned alleged extrajudicial killings, torture, and discriminatory practices targeting the Muslim community. These measures, they said, violate global human rights standards.

The experts also highlighted long-standing issues in India, including widespread harassment of Muslims and the illegal deportation of around 1,900 individuals. They noted that many human rights defenders remain detained for years under security laws without due process.
UN experts further criticized restrictions on media freedom and communication in Jammu and Kashmir. They called for immediate compliance with international norms to ensure freedom of expression and protection of vulnerable communities.
