Pakistani officer wins double gold at world powerlifting

Lady Inspector Iram Khanam of Rawalpindi Police won two gold medals at the World Powerlifting Championship 2025 in Sri Lanka. She defeated top Indian competitors to secure first place in both the powerlifting and deadlift events. Her victories mark a major international achievement for Punjab Police and Pakistan.

Police officials said her success brought widespread praise within the force. Inspector Iram’s performance highlights her growing reputation as a top athlete in the police service. City Police Office personnel welcomed her return with applause and celebrations for her accomplishment.

Earlier this year, she won one gold and two silver medals at the Inter-Region Archery Championship in Rawalpindi on October 4. She then clinched another gold at a powerlifting event in Farooqabad on October 23. These achievements solidified her standing as one of Pakistan’s leading female athletes in law enforcement.

City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani congratulated her, calling her a “shining star of Punjab Police.” He said her triumph was a proud moment not just for the department, but for the entire country.

Inspector Iram’s victory also strengthens Pakistan’s presence in international powerlifting competitions. Her success inspires young athletes, especially women, to pursue sports alongside professional careers in public service.
