
GUJRAT – Modern technology and digitalization are reshaping literary expression and academic inquiry, bringing linguistics and literature closer together in contemporary scholarship, said the scholars at a seminar at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat on Monday.
The seminar, titled “Integrating Linguistics and Literature in Contemporary Research”, was organized by the Department of English. Distinguished speakers included Dr Muhammad Nouman, researcher and faculty member at UMT Lahore, and Dr Akhtar Abbas from the University of Sialkot. The session was hosted by Dr Behzad Anwar, Chairperson of English, with Dr Razae Mustafa serving as organizer. A large number of students and academics attended the session, engaging with discussions on the evolving role of literature and linguistics in the digital age.
Dr Nouman emphasized that literature remains the finest expression of human emotions, even as digital media transforms modes of publication, film and dissemination. He reviewed modern Pakistani literature and explored literary theories that merge linguistic and literary perspectives.
Dr Abbas described linguistics as a vast discipline shaped by cultural and social history. He traced its influence from the scientific discoveries of the 16th century to today’s era of Artificial Intelligence, noting how AI is introducing new dimensions of expression in both linguistics and literature.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Behzad Anwar. Students enriched the session with thought‑provoking questions, reflecting their keen interest in contemporary research trends
