KARACHI: Veteran actor Bushra Ansari voiced her frustration over Karachi’s long-standing decay in a heartfelt Instagram video on Tuesday. She criticised the city’s crumbling infrastructure, mismanaged traffic, garbage piling up, and failing law and order, questioning why authorities have neglected a city that sustains millions.

“For the past 30 to 40 years, we have been hearing that no one is paying attention to Karachi,” Ansari said. She referenced the city’s decline from a thriving, harmonious post-Partition hub to a place plagued by infrastructure collapse and systemic neglect.
Ansari highlighted the plight of the people in interior Sindh, asking why the government refuses to uplift even its own citizens. “Their own people, Sindhis, don’t have slippers on their feet. They have nothing in their hands. They are suffering from poverty,” she said.
Despite the challenges, she praised Karachiites for their warmth and resilience. “Yes, Karachi is broken, the roads are broken, but its people are not. The people here have always been very warm, the environment very welcoming,” Ansari stated.
She also drew attention to the city’s global ranking, noting that Karachi was placed 170th out of 173 cities on the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Livability Index this year, highlighting the severity of its deterioration.
Bushra Ansari urged authorities to take meaningful action, suggesting that citizens even consider filing a petition demanding change. Yet, she asked the most pressing question: against whom should they file it? “The people responsible are also Karachiites. Do they not love Karachi? When will you fix it? When?” she asked.

Through her voice, the pain and frustration of Karachi’s residents are evident. Ansari’s plea reflects widespread discontent and a desperate call for accountability, better governance, and immediate action to restore the city’s lost glory.
