Pakistan Unlocks AI Potential with Local Data Centre

Pakistan AI data centre launches to boost artificial intelligence adoption in healthcare, finance, agriculture, and public safety. Telenor and Data Vault opened the first locally hosted sovereign AI cloud. It allows enterprises to access advanced Nvidia GPUs for AI computing. The project ensures all data remains inside Pakistan, enhancing cybersecurity and national data protection. Experts say this initiative will strengthen research, innovation, and local AI development significantly.

Data Vault CEO Mehwish Salman Ali said the centre hosts over 3,000 Nvidia GPUs for enterprises, universities, and startups. The centre obtained special Nvidia approval despite US export restrictions and global GPU shortages. GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) allows on-demand access for modern AI applications. This development enables sector-specific AI solutions in fintech, logistics, manufacturing, and public services. It also reduces dependency on offshore cloud infrastructure for AI workloads.

The project complies with strict technical, financing, and legal checks, providing a high-performance AI environment. GPUs accelerate machine learning and large-language model development locally. This allows organizations to process data faster and more securely. AI adoption will expand across various sectors, improving efficiency and innovation. The centre positions Pakistan as a regional leader in sovereign AI infrastructure.

By keeping data inside the country, the sovereign cloud reduces risks of sensitive datasets leaving Pakistan. Financial, healthcare, telecom, and government records remain protected under strict access and privacy controls. National cybersecurity, auditability, identity management, and digital trust are strengthened. Previously, enterprises relied heavily on offshore cloud regions for AI workloads. Local AI infrastructure now ensures compliance, safety, and faster innovation.
